Presentation of the Silent World exhibition at Editions Dilecta in Paris, by Lucie de Barbuat and Simon Brodbeck (16 March to 25 May 2019)

Brodbeck & de Barbuat form a duo of artists using photography and video. French and German, they have been working together since 2005 in Paris. Boarders of Villa Medicis, the Académie de France in Rome between 2016 and 2017, they graduated from the Ecole nationale supérieure de la photographie. Their large format colour works question the representation of reality through the exploration of notions of time and space. Their monographs include Rester esprit! (Villa Médicis, 2018) and Vertiges du quotidien (Actes sud, 2010). Winners of the HSBC Prize for Photography in 2010, they were awarded the 2013 Prix Jeune création, the Grand Prix de photographie de Vevey and the 2009 Bourse du talent. Their work has been the subject of personal exhibitions at the Fotomuseum in Antwerp, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Villa Médicis, the Académie de France in Rome, the Institut français du Japon and The Chimney New York; and group exhibitions including the Rencontres de la Photographie à Arles (2017), the Arsenale in Venice (2016), the Kunsthalle Munich (2015), the Grand Palais (2015, 2013), the Kowall and Oddermat projects space (2014), the Musée de Photographie de Thessalonique (2013), the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Festival Images de Vevey (2010).

Their work is part of private and public collections in France and abroad, including the FMAC, Fonds Municipal d'Art Contemporain, the Fotomuseum Antwerpen, the Musée de la Photographie de Thessalononique, the Jenisch Museum of Fine Arts, the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Pavillon populaire, the Nestlé collection for contemporary art, the HSBC collection for photography and the Centre interregional de conservation et restauration du patrimoine.
